About Malcolm

My name is Malcolm Bowen and I am passionate about caring for people and saving lives. 

As part of M De C B Medical I can offer First Aid at Work Courses as well as AED training. 

I am a qualified First Aid Training Provider and a registered general nurse. I am registered under the umbrella scheme with AID Training & Operations Ltd. Aid supports me with certification and has a robust Quality Assurance Process in line with HSE requirements for First Aid Instructors. They are regularly audited and checked for compliance. I am also Future Qual Accredited and regulated by Ofqual. 

I am an NVQ Level 3 Assessor* in Basic Health Care and First Aid. I can assess students in all elements of Basic Health Care and First Aid at NVQ – Level 3 standard. 

I currently offer First Aid at Work Training. (1- and 3-day courses available and other options to suit your requirements). In addition, I provide First Aid Refresher Training alongside Basic Life Support Training. I also teach First Aid Training to teachers and support workers. If you would like to come to me, my courses are held in a comfortable setting at The Stable in Weston-super-Mare. All courses include tea and coffee and upon successful completion of the course, you will leave with a certificate and a handbook.

1 Day Emergency First Aid at Work Course plus Catastrophic Bleeding and use of Bleed Kits
Research based course to include;

Primary, Secondary Survey, Basic Life Support, AED training and Choking.
Shock, Bleeding, and Bandaging, also Emergency Treatment of many Medical conditions.

Followed by Catastrophic Bleeding, use of Hemostats and Tourniquets and Bleed Kits.

The Catastrophic Bleeding session whilst aimed Catastrophic Bleeding, Knife Crime, and Traumatic Injuries, is also beneficial for anyone working with sharp instruments, power tools, those working in Agriculture, Forestry, and many more environments.

New Training Courses Available

Level 3 Foundation Skills in Facilitating First Aid

Level 3 Foundation Skills in Facilitating First Aid is suitable for self-reliant outdoor activity instructors, teachers or leaders and outdoor learning specialists operating in situations where a number of hazards may be present or help may be up to a few hours away, e.g. outdoor education tutor, mountain leader, D of E assessor, bushcraft instructor, forest school leader, canoe expedition leader. The course includes both theory and practical sessions, in a relaxed atmosphere, aimed to boost a delegate’s confidence.

4 hr Catatrophic Haemorrhage – Use of Bleed Kits

4 hr Catatrophic Haemorrhage use of bleed kits
Anatomy and Physiology of circulatory system, use of Haemostatic agent and Tourniquet.

5 Day Advanced FA

5 Day Advanced FA follows FREC 3 but as I am not a centre cannot advertise as FREC 3 First Aid courses for Health Care Professionals

  • All at L3 Accredited Certified courses in line with HSE and Resuscitation Guidelines

Experiences:
– RAF Medic – 1966-67
– State Enrolled Nurse Training – 1967-1969 All Areas including ED, 
– Service 1969-1973 – Station Medic at Various Stations, including RAF Hospital Muharraq Bahrain
– Retail menswear 1973-1980 [Management]
– York District Hospital (1980 -1983) –  Theatre Scrub Nurse.
– Bristol and Weston School of Nursing – 1983-1985 EN to RGN conversion course – all aspects of Nursing covered including ED and CCU, ITU, and psychiatry all 3 month placements, including Bristol Children’s Hospital Respiratory/Cardiology wards.
– Worked then on wards in BRI, and bank and Agency work on Cardiothoracic Unit
– Full time post in Weston commencing in ED for 2 years, then  all other areas of hospital wards, including CCU, ITU, Theatre.
– 6 months working in Manchester on a Renal Dialysis unit both Haemo and PD..
– BRI Low Bowel and Endocrinology Unit for 2 years.
– Weston General for 25 yrs including working in all wards and dept also ED, ITU,CCU, and ending up as Ward Manager of Elderly Care and Stroke Unit for 5 years.
– 10 years in procurement as project specialist for all clinical trials at BRI, NBT, and Weston.
 
After retirement in 2016, I worked as a Clinical Advisor to a company selling Defibrillators both large and AEDs.
 
Set up my own company First Aid Provider 2018/19

Throughout that time I have learnt so much, that I feel I wanted to  give something back to the next generation!

Basic Life Support Instructor (BLSi) Course - Resuscitation Council UK

Malcolm has successfully completed their Basic Life Support Instructor (BLSi) Course through the Resuscitation Council UK.
 
This enables Malcolm alongside Josh & Christine to be able to undertake Basic Life Support (BLS) awareness sessions within our local community. The course undertook 7 Modules Online involving videos and questions and answers.
 
The qualification is valid for 3 years and we are always striving to enhance our ongoing developments and clinical knowledge in the area of raising awareness of the Chain of Survival.
 
We all found the course very informative, and useful, and would both highly recommend the course.
