OUR VISION: A PEOPLE-FIRST WORLD NEWS

While the world drowns in bad news we’re raising up a new wave of positive journalists – children and young people trained in schools today to become tomorrow’s positive storytellers.

Inspired by the life and legacy of Jill Dando, we train young reporters to bring light to the darkest places.

Every story is a seed of hope. Every subscription sows into future generations of journalism – hopeful, truthful and believing for a better future.

Since 2011 we’ve trained hundreds of young people through our Newsrooms in schools and colleges – now reaching across the UK and even in Malawi. Our flagship newsrooms have been running for 14, 9 and 8 years.

Meet some of our inspiring team:

Ellise Hayward, 23, our Disabilities Editor lives with celebral palsy and findis stories of courage, inclusion and triumph.

Josh Bell, 25, our Charities and Schools Editor, shines a light on the unsung heroes and charities changing lives.

Oliver and Ben, both 14, our Parliamentary Correspondents are still in school but have already had three interviews with Mr Speaker, a patron of Jill Dando News.

Others since 2011 have made history with interviews with an exclusive world interview with Prime Minister Boris Johnson inside Downing Street, and others and have written hundreds of stories.

AND we have made a bold choice.

We are deliberately not on social media – on the advice of leading mental health experts. Why? Because the endless doom scroll of negativity is fuelleing a mental health crisis. We’re taking a stand. For happier minds.

This is more than a subscription. It’s a stand to make the world a better place. For a future that is:

✅ Happier – Uplifting, people-focused stories that bring hope, joy, and laughter.

✅ Healthier-minded – Filtering news for mental well-being, no social media, and two mental health charity CEOs as consultant editors.

✅ Kinder – Supporting charities, schools, and ethical businesses with well-deserved free PR to spread positivity.

Be part of the movement. Subscribe to our newspaper, share our stories with friends and family, and help us build a world where news uplifts rather than overwhelms.

Our Two Powerful Tools for Change:

🌍 The Good News Post – A platform where positive stories live and thrive.

🍹 The Good News Tonic www.goodnewstonic.org – Your daily dose of joy and inspiration.

We believe that good news can change the world. We don’t just share positive stories—we empower you to write them, spread them, and inspire others to do the same.

OUR JOURNEY SO FAR

It all began in 2011 when our founder the award-winning journalist Shane Dean launched the first Good News Room in the headteacher’s office at Priory School, UK – supported by news journalists and editors in the media.

This marked the start of the Good News Revolution, followed by The Good News Post in 2016—a platform to share children’s positive stories with the world.

In 2017, Jill Dando News was launched at Worle School in memory of the legendary BBC presenter Jill Dando.

Jill’s kindness, positivity, and journalistic brilliance became the model for this global initiative, empowering young people to think positively, share good news and develop their storytelling skills.

Since then, The Good News Post has grown into a UK-based global good news newspaper.

News journalists and editors including on the BBC, ITV, Sky News, CBS News from America and others have supported the mission since the start giving tips and training.

A CBS news team from America visiting to film at Priory School where the project began in 2011. They were filming our Disability Editor Ellise Hayward who is also a motivational speaker and a patron of Jill Dando News

Since 2017 the project has had the support of two mental health CEOs Wendy Griffin and Dawn Carey – ensuring it is good for mental wellbeing and putting people first.

The project has seen exclusive world interviews with Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Mr Speaker and backing by two prime ministers, Sir Richard Branson, leading journalists, and countless others.

What Sets Us Apart:

We also Train Future Journalists – Through our network of Good News Rooms across the UK, Malawi, and with more on the horizon, we’re nurturing the next generation of ethical journalists.

Our newspaper is guided by two editorial consultants, CEOs of leading mental health charities that support thousands in crisis. We have a deep understanding of the challenges people face today.

Good news will always have the last word!

Our reporters were the first journalists in the world to interview Prime Minister Boris. Johnson inside Downing Street.

Jill Dando News

Jill Dando News began in 2011 at Priory School, UK, right in the headteacher’s office – in Weston-super-Mare – the town Banksy would make famous as the base for his world-famous Dismaland exhibition.

It started as an idea by the innovative headteacher wanting real-life experiences for children and young people to step into the world of journalism writing positive news stories — no matter their age.

Reporters were soon trained in the style and culture of the town’s most famous resident – Jill Dando who rose to the top of the BBC TV – and who went to the neighbouring school Worle School a mile away.

Since then, these young reporters have made global headlines, with 9-, 10-, and 11-year-olds interviewing the Prime Minister at Downing Street within his first weeks in office—not just once, but three times, including two visits to their school.

They’ve also sat down with Mr Speaker in the House of Commons on three occasions and have quizzed hundreds of inspiring figures.

Their positive stories have reached millions through The Good News Post and wider media across the UK and beyond.

These remarkable young journalists are proving that age is no barrier to making a difference—and spreading good news to the world.
